Samford CARES exists to help students thrive. An important component of thriving is nutrition. We are committed to providing access to nutritious food and accessible meal options. Proper nutrition is essential to brain development, physical wellness, and emotional wellbeing, but lots of college students struggle with food insecurity. Food insecurity can happen when there are unexpected expenses like a car repair or a medical bill, changes in income or financial aid, or an insufficient meal plan. This can happen to anyone; over 30% of Samford students reported some level of food insecurity in a recent National College Health Assessment on Campus. You are not alone.
What is the Samford Pantry:
Samford Pantry is here to support students who may need a little extra help with food or basic essentials. We offer a variety of dorm friendly pantry options, personal care items, and ready to go frozen meals. Whether you’re short on groceries for the week or have unexpected expenses the pantry is here for you. Don’t let hunger hold you back.
What Can Food Insecurity Look Like:
- Limited grocery store access
- Sudden change in roommates or living arrangements
- Limited access to transportation
- Loss of job or income
- Changes in family support
- Inclement weather or adjusted hours for typical resources
- Unexpected bills (medical, school expenses, car repairs, home repairs, etc.)
What to Expect on a Visit:
- Stop by during pantry hours: Outside of Samford CARES in the Beard Health & Wellness Center
- Sign in with the QR code or at the kiosk
- Grab up to 2 grocery bags
- Shop for what you need
No proof needed, just come in and take what you need. We are here for YOU.
