What types of things did you work on in your internship?

This summer I worked as a research analyst under the Director of Research at The Potomac Advocates. My daily work included researching space defense policy, watching Congressional hearings and creating written summaries for our clients, and analyzing the federal budget. We also focused on filling out client trackers by delving into the federal defense budget to find line items of interest to our clients.

What was your favorite part of the experience and/or what recommendations you have for future interns?

I undoubtedly gained more knowledge about the policymaking process, federal budget procedures, and military/defense operations. This was all new to me, so it was very interesting to be able to attend events and dinners related to the defense and intelligence sectors and learn more. My advice for future interns would be to take advantage of the connections you make and put in the work to meet people who are willing to mentor you and answer all your career-related questions. There are also so many free networking events you can sign up for!
