UB Mag Feature Arts Loft

Samford Art Lofts were recently highlighted in University Business Magazine, a renowned national publication covering leaders in higher education.

The article, titled “Inside Look: Repurposed buildings for higher ed,” pictured the Art Lofts as an example of “adaptive reuse,” a construction approach that retrofits older facilities for new purposes.

University Business Magazine Associate Editor Steven Blackburn noted the Art Lofts’ minimal waste efforts by retaining original building materials and sourcing of fallen campus oaks.

The new Art Lofts were first opened 2015 after the art department moved from its previous facilities in Swearingen Hall. The extensive project, designed by Davis Architects and built by HOAR Construction, included converting a maintenance shed into an open concept and openings in the external walls for natural light.

University Business Magazine has a reach of more than 75,000 and subscription readership of more than 40,000.
