Dr. David L. Holmes, author of the new book Faiths of the Postwar Presidents: From Truman to Obama, will speak at Samford Thursday, Oct. 4, in Reid Chapel at 10 a.m. His topic will be "An Avalanche of Premature Choices: Trusting in Age Thirty."
Professor of religion, emeritus, at the College of William and Mary, Dr. Holmes also will lead a discussion on the topic of his recently published book at 11 a.m. in Chapman 320. He will hold a roundtable discussion sponsored by Theta Alpha Kappa, the national religion honor society, at 3 p.m. the same day in Chapman 320. The book was published by the University of Georgia Press.
Holmes' visit is sponsored by Samford's department of religion. He will also speak on his book Wednesday, Oct. 3, at 6:30 p.m. at St. Luke's Episcopal Church in Mountain Brook.
Holmes taught at William and Mary for 46 years, wining various teaching awards, before retiring in 2011 to concentrate on his writing. His earlier books include Faiths of the Founding Fathers, published in 2006 by Oxford University Press.
