Samford University senior Katherine Lynne "Katie" Bottoms, 22, of Hoover, Ala., died after a long illness Thursday, May 1. She was pursuing a nursing degree in the Ida V. Moffett School of Nursing, and was a member of Alpha Lambda Delta scholarship honor society, Beta Beta Beta biology honorary and Alpha Delta Pi sorority. She was also a Samford cheerleader.
A graduate of Hoover High School, she was vice president of her class, a member of National Honor Society, a Peer mediator, head varsity cheerleader and a Hoover High ambassador.
She is survived by her parents, Shannon Seale Bottoms and Steve Bottoms; brother, Joshua (Christy) Bottoms; grandparents, Mrs. King Murphy Seale of Birmingham and Mrs. George Bottoms of Auburn, and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. The family requested that memorials be made to Make-a-Wish.
The family will receive friends at Shades Crest Baptist Church from 1-3 p.m. Monday, May 5, followed by a celebration of Katie's life.
