Trey Melazzo

Trey Melazzo, a fourth-year Doctor of Pharmacy student at Samford University’s McWhorter School of Pharmacy, was named to the inaugural class of the American Pharmacists Association (APhA)'s executive residency program. APhA is the largest and oldest pharmacy association in the United States.

The executive residency program provides new pharmacists with training and experience in the fundamentals of association management. Only six students from pharmacy schools across the United States were selected.

The program was created to provide pharmacists with training and experience in the fundamentals of association management. Residents contribute to APhA’s strategic priorities and operations through collaborations with staff teams across the organization.

“My professional ambitions include promoting the profession of pharmacy to create and provide solutions for those who are more vulnerable and less fortunate at a national and global level,” Melazzo said. “I am very interested in integrating my clinical and business knowledge with policy and regulation.”

Melazzo will be exposed to different areas within the association, but he will mainly serve in the Board of Pharmacy Specialties (BPS). The residency is a one-year program and will take place at APhA’s headquarters in Washington D.C.

Melazzo will graduate on April 23, earning a Doctor of Pharmacy. While in graduate school, he worked at Children’s of Alabama Hospital as a pharmacy intern and earned a Master of Business Administration.
