Recent Samford University graduates are entering the workforce or advancing their degrees quickly and successfully. Six months after graduation, 97% of May 2021 graduates reported being either employed, continuing their education in graduate school or working in post-graduation internships.
“We are thrilled these numbers demonstrate our students thrived despite the Covid-19-related adjustments their senior year. They gained the knowledge and experiences that were critical to their success in finding jobs and being accepted into competitive graduate programs,” said Dora Ditchfield, director of the Career Development Center. “It is truly a testament to their hard work, as well as the knowledge and support of Samford’s faculty and staff.”
As of Nov. 8, of the May 2021 graduates, 51% were employed, 42% were in graduate school and 4% were in post-graduation internships.
Samford’s Career Development Center administers the bi-annual survey of all undergraduate alumni which confirms consistently high employment and graduate school placement rates for Samford graduates
The high rate of engagement speaks to the student support provided by faculty and staff. Beginning their freshman year, students are equipped with resources to explore interests and career aspirations through student organizations, global engagement opportunities, and individual career counseling services and assistance that evolves to meet their needs as they continue through Samford. The result is a highly-tailored educational experience that results in high employment and graduate school acceptance rates among graduates.
Earlier this year, Samford was recognized for this work when it was ranked first in the nation for student engagement by The Wall Street Journal and Times Higher Education.
