Samford University School of the Arts student Leah Doss won the Vocal category in the National Federation of Music Clubs Student/Collegiate Auditions (Woman’s Voice Classification) in May. The award includes a $3,000 prize.
"It was wonderful to meet members of the music club that sponsored the competition, and who are such great supporters of students," Doss said of her honor.
“Samford’s voice students have a long and strong record of success throughout Alabama and the southeast but it is extraordinary to have a student reach national recognition,” said Sharon Lawhon, professor of music and coordinator of the vocal-choral department. “Leah possesses the vocal, musical, and personal potential to go far in the field of vocal performance,” Lawhon added. “She is the kind of student who is a joy to teach and inspires me to be a better teacher.”
Doss’s mother, School of the Arts alumna Laura Doss, ‘86, teaches at Alabama School of Fine arts and serves her Alma Mater as an adjunct music faculty member.
