John L. Carroll, dean of Samford University's Cumberland School of Law, was inducted into the International Society of Barristers as an Academic Fellow at the Society's annual meeting on March 10.
The organization is an honor society of lawyers chosen by their peers on the basis of excellence and integrity in advocacy. It seeks to preserve trial by jury, the adversary system and the independence of the judiciary.
Fellows represent each U.S. state, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico and five other nations.
Carroll was cited for his contributions to the profession as a lawyer, judge and dean of Cumberland.
A Cumberland graduate, Carroll served 14 years as U.S. Magistrate Judge, U.S. District Court for the Middle District of Alabama, before being named Cumberland dean in 2001.
