Samford's Department of History will sponsor a reception for the department's alumni, friends, faculty (current and former), and current students Thursday evening, November 16, as part of the 2006 Annual Meeting of the Southern Historical Association in Birmingham.
The reception will feature a screening and brief discussion of the half-hour 1961 CBS documentary, "Who Speaks for Birmingham," which sought to let Birmingham residents, both black and white, speak on behalf of their community, then the center of international attention due to racial strife. The documentary includes an interview with Howard College students in Reid Chapel.
The reception will be held from 5:00-6:30 p.m. at the Birmingham Public Library in the Arrington Auditorium on the third floor of the Linn-Henley Research Library (the old Birmingham Public Library) located at 2100 Park Place in Downtown.Sandwiches and refreshments will be served.
