Drayton Nabers, Jr., chief justice of the Alabama Supreme Court, and Donald E. Powell, chair of the Federal Deposit Insurance Corp., will address Samford University seniors during Commencement weekend this month. A total of 805 graduates will receive degrees.
Nabers will speak during Baccalaureate service Friday, May 20, at 5 p.m. in Wright Center Concert Hall at Samford. The service will follow a 2:30-4 p.m. reception for graduates and their families in Beeson University Center.
Powell will deliver the commencement address during graduation ceremonies Saturday, May 21, at 10 a.m. in Birmingham-Jefferson Convention Complex Arena. He has been head of the government agency that insures deposits in banks and thrift institutions for up to $100,000 since Aug. 29, 2001.
Cumberland School of Law commencement will be Saturday, May 21, at 3 p.m. in Wright Center. Anne Pope, federal co-chair of the Appalachian Regional Commission and a 1986 Cumberland graduate, will speak.
