What do you think is the BEST thing about Cumberland?

The best thing about Cumberland, to me, is how deeply community-focused it is. Developing interpersonal relationships with peers and professors feels natural here because that sense of connection is something I believe the school prioritizes. I can tell there is a genuine effort to create an environment where people build each other up.

Why did you choose Cumberland?

I chose Cumberland because, when I toured, I could clearly see people who reflected parts of my own story and they made that vision feel real. It allowed me to imagine a community where I could feel supported, comfortable, and confident in my ability to grow without compromising parts of my identity for the sake of any pseudo professionalism.

What do you most enjoy about studying law in Birmingham? What do you like to do in Birmingham?

What I value most about studying law in Birmingham is the level of connection to the legal field across so many areas of practice and other locations. There is a strong, active legal community here, and being surrounded by that kind of environment provides constant opportunities. It makes the study of law feel tangible and rooted in real experience.

If you could give any advice to your pre-law school self, what would you say?

If I could give any advice to my undergraduate self, I would encourage him to explore a legal career earlier. I never saw myself going to law school but, I should have been more intentional listening to the advice of my peers encouraging me to go. At the time, I couldn’t envision it for myself. I would remind him that just because you can’t fully see the path yet doesn’t mean it isn’t meant for you.

What do you plan to do after graduation?

I think it’s still a bit early for me to say exactly what I plan to do after graduation, but I do know that I’ll be well equipped and prepared to take my talents as far as I’m willing to push them. I’ve learned that if I don’t aim high, then I’m aiming too low.
