Did you know that a person can be legally dead in one state, transported across state lines, and legally resurrected in another state—with important implications for trusts and estates law? Did you know that Mark Twain may have run afoul of common law copyright when he wrote a short story based upon an oral slave narrative? These are just a few of the many interesting topics our faculty are exploring.
But our program expands beyond the Cumberland School of Law faculty and alumni to discuss important and interesting research topics with academic faculty and practitioners around the nation and the world.

Cumberland School of Law Professor Layne Keele talks with Dean Blake Hudson about the U.S. Supreme Court’s citation of his Oklahoma Law Review article “Only Mostly Dead: How the Irreparable Injury Rule Can Protect the Jury Trial Right for Claims in Restitution.” Professor Keele’s article deals with legal versus equitable remedies and how the distinction affects the right to a jury trial, and he discusses the implications of this issue and how the Supreme Court ruling paves the way for future rulings.
Sigurður Helgason, associate lawyer at Juris law firm in Reykjavik, Iceland, talks with Cumberland School of Law Dean Blake Hudson about the major modern challenges faced by Iceland, from high interest rates to inflation to whether Iceland should pursue European Union membership. He also discusses the importance of the United States to Iceland’s independence and how Iceland sits squarely between the U.S. and Europe, legally, culturally and economically.
