Samford University’s Orlean Beeson School of Education recently celebrated the dedication of its Curriculum Materials and Technology Center (CMTC) to Peter John Clemens IV ‘87.

The dedication was a surprise planned by his wife Julie Clemens ‘86 in recognition of his previous giving to Samford in honor of her father, Carl E. Miller Jr.

Senior Associate Provost and Orlean Beeson School of Education Interim Dean Howard Finch opened the dedication, noting that “This individual, inspires us with his humble generosity. A Samford graduate and career businessman, he is committed to equipping Brock School of Business students for success through academic scholarships. Yet, he and his wife also understand the importance of training impactful teachers who can positively influence the next generation.”

Speaking at the dedication with Finch, was Randy Pittman, vice president for university advancement.

“Peter, thank you for your selfless contributions of time, talent and treasure to Samford. For all the times you have honored others with your generosity, your wife Julie asked that today we honor you.”

Clemens was presented with a plaque near the center’s entrance reading “The Curriculum Materials and Technology Center is supported through the selfless generosity of Peter John Clemens IV, Class of 1987. Dedicated with gratitude on September 24, 2019.”

The Clemens family gift was used to upgrade and renovate the CMTC, which provides resources, media and services to students, faculty and staff designing instructional materials. The purpose of the center has a personal connection with Clemens and his family as three family members have graduated from Orlean Beeson School of Education.
