What has made your experience as a Brock Scholar valuable?
In my time in the Brock Scholars Program, I’ve been encouraged as well as equipped to pursue uncommon opportunities and experiences. This past spring, I worked with a sports-based nonprofit ministry where I could step into a role that would foster fellowship through sports and athletics training. My tasks ranged from managing a client information database, restructuring their website, coordinating volunteers, and engaging with the community I served. This program has also allowed me to combine two of my interests, finance and computer science, into a degree path that I can completely immerse myself into.
How has Brock Scholars shaped your Samford education and your future career?
The Brock Scholars program has empowered me to be a student in all circumstances. Curiosity exists at the very center of what the program is. Scholars are at the end of the day, students. They seek and find. They behold and then become. In the program I’ve realized that learning doesn’t just exist within the context of a lecture or a lab, but is a reality that can be engaged with at any time and in any circumstance. Knowledge is a gift and it must be stewarded well for the sake of serving one another in love, but more importantly, so the Gospel can be made known among the nations. This program has allowed me to delight in my education and see every experience that I have as an opportunity to learn but also grow.
How has Brock Scholars connected you to the local and global community?
This summer I have the privilege of interning at Regions Bank as part of their Finance Development Program. Additionally, during the month of May, I will be working with Faithful Teachings, a non-profit organization that works to provide health/wellness resources (including education and training) to Costa Ricans through local Costa Rican non-profits and Costa Rican church communities. I will be specifically coordinating various aspects of the mission, and I will work with local churches to provide training materials for dissemination to local pastors who desire to learn better business/management practices within their churches.
