Professors combine academic excellence in theology, the Bible, and world religions alongside practical ministry experience. We also have strong faculty expertise in the historical and cultural study of religion.
Small classes, individual advising, and relationships with faculty who remain trusted mentors long after graduation.
Students study ministry leadership, Christian ethics, world religions, history of Christianity, race and religion, religion in America, sociology of religion, and more, preparing for multifaceted careers through an interdisciplinary lens.
Opportunities include a fast-track Master of Divinity (MDiv) or Master of Social Work (MSW), and eligibility for Samford’s fifth-year MBA with a business minor.

“The professors have been the most impactful part of the department for me... It’s the relationships they offer that really impacted me.”—Anne Marie Vines ’21, Pastor of Forest Street UMC & Bethlehem UMC, Doctor of Ministry Student at Vanderbilt University
