Dr. Charles Ford is a Professor in the Department of Architecture and Interior Design. Before joining Samford University in 2005, he taught for eight years in both secondary and postsecondary education. His primary teaching areas include architectural drawing, building systems, lighting, and furniture and millwork.

Dr. Ford’s professional background spans architectural, civil, and environmental engineering firms. More recently, he has worked with several notable architectural and interior design firms in Birmingham, Alabama, contributing to projects across residential, healthcare, and corporate sectors.

His research interests focus on the impact of the built environment on aging populations, pedagogical approaches in design education, and the vernacular architecture of Alabama. His recent scholarship has appeared in the International Journal of Design Education and has been archived by the Library of Congress.

Dr. Ford is a Certified Aging-in-Place Specialist (CAPS) and a LEED Accredited Professional (AP ID+C).
