What: “Gothic Sculpture in America” — a lecture by Dr. Jennifer Feltman, Associate Professor of Art History, The University of Alabama
When: Saturday, Oct. 4 at 3 p.m.
Where: Brooks Hall, Room 134
During the French Revolution, many Gothic sculptures were damaged, destroyed, or displaced. In the years between the World Wars, surviving works entered international art markets and became prized objects for collectors. In this lecture, Dr. Feltman will trace the fascinating stories of these works of art—exploring loss and rediscovery, collaborative Franco-American research employing nuclear science, and the latest efforts to digitally reconstruct fragments from French cathedrals.
The event is free and open to the public.
