Wes Johnson comes to Samford University from Island Medical Management, where he served as Director of Clinical Education for the company’s Huntsville Division. Prior to that, he worked exclusively in emergency medicine as a physician assistant and at Children’s Hospital as a respiratory therapist in the Special Care Unit. During his time in emergency medicine, he received additional training in advanced burn, trauma and wilderness life support.
Johnson has always enjoyed teaching and served as a preceptor for students from multiple programs in the emergency department. His passion for education led him to return to school to complete his doctoral work, focusing on interprofessional medical education. In 2018, he transitioned to full-time academics and joined the faculty at Samford University.
Wes enjoys hiking, kayaking, camping, Alabama football and Samford basketball. He and his wife, Emily, live in Indian Springs Village with their two children, Addy and Chipper.
