Christian Sanchez earned a BA in Chemistry from Pepperdine University and a PhD in Chemistry from Emory University. As an undergraduate, he conducted research in the isolation and characterization of natural products from native plants in the Santa Monica Mountains. His doctoral research focused on natural product total synthesis and the development of novel cationic disinfectants. His current research leverages organic synthesis to probe bacterial systems, focusing on the cell envelope, with the goal of combating antimicrobial resistance.

Beyond the laboratory, he is interested in Christian approaches to understanding science and technology. He serves as faculty advisor for the Samford student chapter of the American Scientific Affiliation, which seeks to encourage students to consider how their Christian faith relates to their calling as scientists.

Sanchez is originally from Los Angeles, California, where he enjoyed endless sunshine and warmth. He married his college sweetheart, Madison, and they currently have two sons.
